Christina Ricci is the not-so-secret weapon of Monstrous, whose performance makes up for the film’s at times lackluster execution of its various intriguing ideas.

The multiverse itself may be left feeling significantly unexplored, but it’s hard not to celebrate a Marvel movie as streamlined as this one is, right down to its shorter runtime.

While the story takes a rather linear route with few surprises, Eggers and his team still deliver incredibly visceral sequences of Viking brutality, an impressively massive and beautiful production and an engaging take on an old legend. It’s easy to get lost in time during those two hours.

Hawk is a legend, and while this documentary may be more invested in that rather than what makes him a human, it’s still a dazzling story worth telling.

The true appeal of The Batman is the way it functions as a true detective story much more so than a superhero one. Bruce and company spend more time searching for clues and going over evidence than punching bad guys and blowing stuff up, and the film’s morbidly chilling tone (as well the nature of Riddler’s crimes) takes inspiration from David Fincher work like Se7en and Zodiac much more so than anything starring an Avenger.

Funny how often a literal homemade family movie like this looks superior to blockbusters with budgets stretching to hundreds of millions of dollars.

Fans of this uniquely (and sometimes delightfully) appalling franchise probably won’t regret giving this one a watch if they’re looking for a few moments of inspired butchery, but anything more is still regrettably out of reach.

Jackass is loud, abrasive, disgusting, juvenile, abhorrent, and absolutely genius. It’s an essential foundation of American entertainment and culture.

Mamoru Hosoda's Belle is a modern take on classic material.

For those looking for an easy fix of crazy violence that’s expertly staged and delivered, you can’t go wrong with this nasty piece of work.

This predictable and nearly emotionless spy flick has neither charismatic characters (despite a recognizable and talented cast) nor any memorable action, turning what could’ve been a fun, star-studded, globe-trotting adventure with a bunch of kickass secret agents into a relentlessly dull two hours.

What better franchise than The Matrix to address the way in which capitalist culture devours, erodes and eventually weaponizes art and the idea and dreams that come with it via a legacy sequel of its own?

This is del Toro’s first film without fantasy or supernatural elements, and he easily proves that he can deliver a thrilling tale without using them literally.
